PUTRAJAYA: Bidding applications for the new Feed-in Tariff (FiT) quota for non-solar resources will be opened in August this year, said Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
He said the quota of up to 187 megawatts (MW) includes 30MW each for biogas and biomass sources and 127MW for *** all hydropower sources.
"The government expects the new FiT quota to be able to generate investments of RM1.8 billion and create 550 jobs in the renewable energy (RE) industry such as biogas, *** all hydropower and biomass,” he said at a press conference today.
All quotas can be applied for online bidding through the Malaysian Sustainable Energy Development Authority’s (SEDA) website at https://www.seda.gov.my.
Applications are open for *** all hydropower resources on August 2 and for biogas and biomass on August 9.
Takiyuddin said the online e-bidding application for the FiT quota had been implemented in 2018, with the aim to approve the FiT quota to qualified and competitive bidders.
On the electricity tariff for domestic consumers which will end on June 30, Takiyuddin said the government had not yet made a decision on the new electricity tariff and would make an announcement at a later date.
Currently, the electricity tariff remains at 39.45 sen per kiloWatt hour (kWh) and domestic consumers also enjoy a rebate of two sen per kWh without any surcharge. - Bernama
